Since I was 12, I’ve thrown over-the-top themed birthday parties — think red-carpet events and pad-see-ew cooking classes — complete with printed hourly schedules handed out to my co-hosts (aka my mom and dad). That love for micro-organizing soon spilled into our family vacations, where I’d plan some days down to the minute.

Fast forward to post-grad life… I found myself stuck in that peculiar limbo between full-time work, family trips, and a craving for independent adventures. I realized — like a lot of other 20-somethings — you don’t have to choose. You can do both.
